Ceremonies...

Hello everyone, as always, I hope all is well. The weather is beautiful and we have made it past our first busy weekend of the year!

As the summer rolls on, we start to see more and more ceremonies that are being performed outside of the conventional church setting. There are a lot of couples out there who love the customization and personalization of a DJ playing music for the ceremony.

With any ceremony location, the couple obviously has a choice of what music they would like to be played during the event. With ceremonies being performed by the DJ the amount of music that the bride and groom can select from becomes even more infinite.

Normally in a wedding ceremony, you will hear a few pieces of music. It all starts with the processional, then the bridal march (where the bride walks down the aisle), some couples will opt to have a song played during their unity candle or sand ceremony, and then to end the whole thing we normally hear the recessional.

There are a few things that need to be kept in mind when you plan out the music for your ceremony. Ceremonies like many things, are programmed to start calm and work it's way up to a climax. When you choose the processional and bridal march songs, we usually recommend something a little classier and a little more laid back. As I mentioned above, some people choose music for their sand ceremony or unity candle ceremony, but a lot of people realize that those events really only take about ten seconds altogether. If you do choose music for those events, keep a shorter song in mind, or maybe ask to fade out the track half way through the song.

This is where we get to the best part of the DJ playing music for the ceremony. The end of the ceremony is the recessional. This is the part where you can choose whatever song/s you would like. We have seen everything from Metallica to game show themes. This is really the first song that you will hear as a newly married couple. You can put as much significance as you would like on that.

If you are interested in adding a ceremony, or if you would like more information, please let us know!

Have a great day.

"What music should I pick for...?"

Hello again everyone. As always, I hope that all is well in your world. I hope that all of the planning and preparation is going smoothly.

We are getting to the point in the year where the amount of performances goes through the roof! This is also that time of the year where we start to see more and more planning forms coming in. This is always a fun time for us because we get to know the couples even more. We get to sort of look into what their world is all about.

This aspect of the business is one of the more appealing reasons to be in the wedding industry. We are able to spend an entire day with a particular group of people, friends, family, and others. We get to meet everyone when they are looking their best, usually feeling their best, and excited about the day's festivities. This is the point in the process where we get to make sure that people are smiling and just letting themselves go. Before we can get to this point however, there is a lot of planning and calculation on what to do and when to do it.

I would say almost everyday multiple times a day we get a phone call from a client asking "what music should I pick for the Grand March, Father/Daughter dance, Mother/Son dance, etc..." This is a great question. I'm sure many of you who frequent weddings throughout the year start to hear a lot of the same music over and over. I know so many couples who want to make sure that their wedding is unique and different from every other wedding that they will be at. Well, here is a fun way to stand out from the pack.

When we get questions like that, we will always ask in return, "what kind of music are you into?" We always ask that because we will not recommend an upbeat hip-hop song for your Grand March if you aren't into hip-hop. These are things that we like to know about our couples. If you are choosing a song for the Grand March, pick something that is close to home for you. That is one of those times in the night where you can stand out and play that hard rock tune, or that techno track, or that ridiculous sing a long anthem that you loved in high school. That moment is all about you, the bride and groom.

As for the other spotlight dances, just pick something that you know you can look back on in ten years and be happy with. Those are the songs that always make the biggest impact. If you try so hard to make a moment special, we have all come to learn it doesn't always work. Choose music that will make you smile, that will make your Father smile, your Mother smile, or your wedding party smile.

I hope that this could be a little bit of a help for those of you who are at this stage in the planning process. If you do ever have questions, always feel free to get a hold of us.

Have a great week!

Good news!!!

Hello everyone! I hope that the last week as been awesome for you. Things keep trucking along over here as usual. The mood in the office has been light and fun over the last week. I think it has something to do with weather.

Anyway, we received our letter from Minnesota Bride Magazine stating that we are one of the finalists in the Best DJ category for the Best of 2010 readers' choice awards. I just want to say thank you again to everyone who voted for us. We appreciate it many times over!

It looks as if there will be a little party in July to announce all of the winners, so please keep checking back for the final results!

This is a short one this week. I apologize, but next week I will be back something a little more in depth. Thanks again everyone! Have a terrific week!

The do it your self DJ...

Hey folks, I hope that the last week has gone exceptionally well. We are pretty excited because thank you to our Music Director Ryan and a few other guys on the staff we finally have all of the new lockers built and ready to go! Just in time for the busy season to start.

This week I wanted to share a story with everyone. Now this is something that you have all either thought about or heard about at some point in the wedding planning process. The idea that I am talking about is the "do it yourself DJ." This is where couples will opt for just an "iPod wedding" or to have your friend's uncle provide the music for the event. Honestly, if you are looking to save a lot of money, this is probably the way you will want to go, however, you are looking to entertain your guests and want to make sure everyone has a great time, this may not always be the best option.

The only reason why I am touching on this subject this week is because this subject of debate just came up last weekend again. One of our supervisors was out and about checking in on our DJs and came across the Profile Event Center in Minneapolis that had two different weddings going on at the same time. In one room, there was a DJ, sound, lights, and the party was moving. In the other room, the bride and groom had opted to use their laptop. The same songs were playing over and over and no one was dancing.

Now I'm sure that you have heard this from any DJ company out there and to an extent they are all correct. The things that you need to think about when it comes to having an "iPod" or "do it yourself" wedding is the fact that a play list on a computer doesn't always cut it. You want to have fun and be as stress free as possible (emphasis on as possible) on your wedding day right? Usually with "iPod" weddings you will have to rent the sound (depending on where you are having your reception) set up the sound, tech the sound, make the play list of music, change the music if the original list doesn't work, designate someone to announce your first dance, and then tear it all down at the end of the night. Kind of a headache right?

Your wedding day is a big day, it's something that you want to make sure goes off perfectly or as perfectly as it can be. When you take the time to find a professional to come out and provide a service for your event, you will get professional results. If the notion of being able to choose any music on your laptop or iPod is appealing to you, just let us know that right away. We are always trying to accommodate you in any way that we can.

As I mentioned in the previous posting, we will have snapshots of different events coming up soon!

Holy DJs Batman!

Alright alright, so the bridal show season is over. Now that the staff is nice and warmed up we are heading into the performance part of the year. This is the point where we get to see everyone that we spoke with all nice and dressed up, smiling, and happy on their wedding day.

This year Midwest Sound will be performing for more events than we ever have before. Last year we did close to 1,400 events and this year we may make it upwards to almost 1,500 events.

We started our DJ training process a couple of months ago and we are still in full swing. We have always prided ourselves on having the most quality DJs in the Midwest and we are striving to continue this practice. As of last year we had hired, trained, scheduled, and sent out over 60 DJs on our roster. With another year of expansion upon us we are now shooting to get 80 or more DJs on the staff.

We have always been proud about the amount of DJs that are on our staff. They have always been brought up through the company. We don't ever call on a subcontracted person to try and fill an event.

As the days go on I will give you more and more info on the status of our DJs. As we start performing more and more I will be getting some photos up. This is a nice way to be able to see your venue the way it will look on the day of your event.

Have a great day, stay happy, and we'll talk to you soon!

Still standing...

Hey folks, we have officially come to the end of the bridal show season. Midwest Sound has done more bridal shows than we have ever done before. This comes to an end right in time for our 34th birthday!

Now I'm sure that you have all heard from one of the representatives or have read it on the website, but we are coming into our 34th year of business and we couldn't be happier. We are the largest and most experienced DJ company in the Midwest. Because of all of you who continue to ask us to be apart of your events, we are fortunate enough to be able to play almost 1,400 events a year! In this amount of time we still have a clean track record of never missing a single event.

This summer is going to prove to be a huge milestone for the company. We are performing more events than we ever have. Right now we are hiring on new talent for the performance season. We are looking to have an active roster of at least 80 DJs this summer. This is to give us the comfort of being able to match you the client up with a wide range of people and it gives us the peace of mind to know that we have plenty of back up personnel.

This may sound redundant, but seriously, we cannot thank all of you enough. You are the reason why we are able to stay in business and work the way we do. Just to let you in on what's really going on, there are six of us who actively work in this office. We are all truly excited to come to work day in and day out. I guarantee you there aren't a lot of things that are more fun than working at a DJ company. So, again, thank you, especially in these trying times for a lot of people and a lot of companies.

With all of that being said, our doors are always open. The phone lines are always on so let us know if you ever need anything. It's starting to get beautiful outside and we are excited to start performing more and more as the months go on!

Spring has sprung!

Hi again, I know it's been a little while but I can assure you that we are still alive and well! I hope that everything has been going well for all of you. For all of our existing clients, I hope that the music planning is going well and for everyone else, I hope that the entire wedding planning process is going great!

We have the final stretch of the bridal show season coming up this weekend. It has been a blast ever since September to be able to meet so many people! We are really proud of the fact that we have been able to help so many people in their planning process.

Coming up this weekend Midwest Sound returns to the Minneapolis Convention Center for the Twin City Bridal Association show. This is always a great event for us and for those of you who have June/July dates for 2011, this is the show for you. This is your chance to get a leg up on everyone else who will be starting their shopping in September. This event will be held on Sunday from 11am to 4pm.

For those of you in Rochester, MN come down and visit us on Sunday at the International Events Center. We will be there all day hanging out and handing out information! We have participated in this event for the last couple of years and it always seems to get better and better. The times for the event are 11am to 3pm.

I touched on this real quick earlier and this is something that you may hear from us this weekend or in the next couple of weeks, but this is such a great time to get a jump start on next year's planning. The reason why I say this is because normally come September or October thousands of people start to pick up the planning process for their Summer dates. For those of you who are taking the time to gather information and shop right now, don't think you are looking too far in advance. This is actually the perfect time for this.

When couples look this early it really helps them/you a lot. The reason being is because you will save a lot of money (which is always a good thing right) and you will have this funny thing called, "peace of mind" next year when all of your planning is already done.

The reason you are able to save so much money is because a lot of vendors (not just DJ companies) are willing to be more flexible with pricing farther out from your date. If you reserve your services now, you will more than likely get some wonderful deals.

One other piece of information that I wanted to share was that if you are reading this and are at the beginning of the planning process, we understand that this takes time. Normally the first thing to get locked down is the selection of your reception venue. We have been in business for almost 34 years now and have had the chance to work with almost every hall, ballroom, and venue in the state. After reading this, please jump back to our homepage and click on the "venue partners" tab. Hopefully this is a helpful tool for you when searching for a venue. If you need any other recommendations, please let us know!

Thanks again for all of the support over the last couple of months. We really do love the fact that we are able to come out play for so many of you. Thanks for letting us be apart of your events!

See you all real soon!

February...

We have moved into a new month and things are still as hot as ever. The swing continues with more bridal shows, more voting, and more appointments!

First off, this week I want to extend a hand to anyone who is planning right now and needs some decent referrals for their photographer, venue, florist, etc. We have been doing this for almost 34 years now and we have had the chance to work with a lot of really great vendors around the Twin Cities. If you are one of our existing clients or you are just looking at us, let us know if you need some help.

Alright, so, this coming week is going to be yet another crazy week for us. Coming up this Saturday we have the Maplewood Community Center bridal show. This is an event that we have been to many many times before. We will be providing the music and the voice for their fashion show as well.

I know I wrote about this last week, but here it is again, it is that time of the year where we ask all of you and your friends to please vote for Midwest Sound on MN Bride Magazine's Best of Bride 2010 awards. We are hoping to not only get the best in DJ service, but we are looking to grab the best overall vendor award as well. If you would like to vote you can do so here:

MN Bride Best of Bride 2010

Thanks everyone. Every vote is really appreciated.

I hope that everyone has had a good start to February thus far. If you have spoken to us on the phone, over e-mail, or at a bridal show you may have heard us say this, but if any of you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at anytime. We would love to help out in any way that we can!

Have a good week and we will see you soon!

Time to vote!!

Hi folks. I hope that the last few weeks have been awesome. January is almost come and gone! We have been all around Minnesota and Wisconsin talking to a lot of brides, grooms, vendors, venues, etc.

This week I wanted to highlight not only the bridal shows that we will be participating in this weekend, but it is that time of year again where we ask all of you to please go and vote for us in Minnesota Bride Magazine's Best of Bride awards. You can link to the voting form here:

MN Bride Best of Bride 2010

We are looking to win the best overall vendor and best DJ award this year, so please tell friends, family, or anyone else has seen us or heard of us to vote! It is greatly appreciated. I believe you will see me talk about this some more in the future.

For this week's bridal show report we will be traveling to Otsego, MN and to White Bear Lake MN. This Sunday Jan. 31st we will be at two different spots trying to get the word out. The first show is the Northwest Wedding Expo! It will be held at the Holiday Inn of Elk River. The show times are from 1pm to 5pm. This is going to be our first time at this show and we will be providing the sound for the event so please stop by and say hi!

The other event that is happening that day is the White Bear Country Inn bridal show in White Bear Lake, MN. This event will be from 12pm to 4pm. This is always a fun event for us because the White Bear Country Inn is one of our most preferred vendors. We have been partners with them for a very long time so it it's like hanging out with friends all day long!

I wanted to let everyone know that it has been an absolute pleasure to speak with so many of you over the last couple of weeks. The entire staff has had a great time at the events that we have been participating in. I just wanted to extend a hand to those of you who are still shopping around and looking for a DJ to come on in and meet with us in our office. We always love having people come in to enjoy our office and so we can go over everything a little more in depth. Please contact your representative and ask them how you can set up a time to meet!

Thanks everyone. I hope to see all of you out at one of the shows this weekend. Stay warm, stay well, and have a wonderful rest of the day!

I believe we are in full swing from here...

Hi again everyone. First of all, I want to thank everyone who stopped by and said hi to us at the TCBA Wedding Fair at the Convention Center last weekend. Overall it was a good show for us. We were able to get a lot of people signed up for their dates and we were able to get a ton of information packets out to people!

It's so funny because around the office we talk about how this is the "off season" for Midwest Sound. In some respects it is, on the performance side of things, yes, we aren't doing as many events as we would say in June or September or October, however, we are super busy with all of you brides and grooms who want to lock down your date! This has become the norm here at Midwest Sound for the last couple of years. Since we have expanded two years in a row we have had to work that much harder year round. We really couldn't be happier either. Day in and day out we have had a ton of fun working with so many different people.

Remember folks, the reason why I say all of this is because we are so busy right now. That means everyone is looking for the date in 2010. If you have spoken with us in the past or just the other day, I'm sure you have heard one of us talk about how things are filling up. I swear that isn't any sort of sales trick, it is a reality of the situation. Right now we have three dates over the summer that only have one system available, so be on the lookout, make sure that you reserve your vendors now so you can save a bit of money and so you can get the vendors you want rather than the ones that you are stuck with.

Thanks everyone. Next week I will give you another weekend full of Bridal Show information! Have a great week and until next time....

The last week...

Hi again. Holy cow what a week it has been here at Midwest Sound. Just to let everyone know, we have survived the crazy weekend of bridal shows! We spoke to many many different brides and grooms. Thanks to our existing clients for stopping and saying hi and welcome to all of our new clients!

We started the weekend off in Rochester at the Mayo Civic center. We had a great time at the event. Ryan, Hart, and Paul worked the booth. We had the pleasure of standing next to the ladies from the Holiday Inn Owatonna. Thanks for the comic relief guys!

The show this year seemed a bit slower than the year before, but that doesn't mean we weren't able to talk to a lot of people. I hope everyone enjoyed the show!

Sunday was a huge day for Midwest Sound. We covered Owatonna, Mankato, and The Depot in Minneapolis. Our staff was definitely stretched out.

This weekend we are going to be participating in the Twin Cities Bridal Association Wedding Fair at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The show is from 11am to 4pm. This is always the busiest show of the entire year. If you guys are stopping out to say hi I say come as early as you possibly can, it will get very busy.

For those of you who are having their reception at the Holiday Inn Burnsville, we will also have a representative at the tasting on Sunday.

This week's bridal show tip is an easy one. A lot of vendors will ask you to write your name down for prizes, discounts, etc. Take the time out to make little labels with your name, address, phone number, and date of the event. You can pick up the labels at any office supply store. Trust me if you do this your hand will not be sore by the end of the day!

We can't wait to see everyone this weekend. Please stop by and say hi!

Bridal Show Report 1/5/09

Here we go folks. This is the first edition of the Bridal Show report. We are kicking off 2010 with a huge bang! This weekend we have 4 different bridal shows that Midwest Sound is attending. Should make for some good times right?

First on the list is the Wedding Extravaganza at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, MN. That will be this Saturday from 9am until 4pm. If you live in or around Rochester please stop by and say hi. Myself and a couple of the other guys will be leaving the office at 6am that morning to make sure that we are down there and ready to go!

The next three shows all fall on the same day. First we have the Owatonna's People Press show at the Owatonna Holiday Inn on Sunday the 10th. That show will last from 10am to 3pm. The next event is held at the Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato from 10am to 3pm. The third event will be held here in the Twin Cities at the Depot Center in downtown Minneapolis. All three of these events are successful and busy events. We are excited to talk to A LOT of brides and grooms.

As you can see we are going to be pretty busy. Our staff will definitely be stretched out to it's maximum! I will try my best to take a few snapshots of each of these shows for everyone to see.

Here is my bridal show going tip for the day: Come with a purpose. When you are going to a bridal show, definitely have what you are looking for in mind. If you attend these events with no goal in sight, you will get overwhelmed very quickly. To add onto that, it is always a good idea to reserve at the shows themselves. If you are nowhere near ready, that's understandable, but if you know what it is you are looking for, then you will be able to save a lot of money by reserving at the event and you will have the pick of which company you want the most.

I really hope to see you at one of the events this weekend. Please stop by and say hi if you are an existing client of ours. We love putting faces to the names!

See you this weekend!
